Matterport Pro3: LiDAR speed for bigger, brighter spaces

Matterport announced the Pro3 camera on 24 August 2022, and our first units reached Spatialists a week later. It is the first Matterport camera built around a LiDAR sensor rather than structured-light depth, and that single change moves the whole platform into places the Pro2 could not go.

What is new

• LiDAR depth to 100 m with roughly 20 mm accuracy at 10 m, so open-plan floors, atriums and warehouses stitch cleanly.
• 20 s per sweep instead of roughly a minute, which halves the time on site for a typical 10,000 sq ft floor.
• Outdoor capture in direct sunlight. Courtyards, roof decks, loading docks and building exteriors now join the same model as the interior.
• Swappable batteries and a 20 MP sensor with better dynamic range for bright rooms.

What it means for a booking

For most commercial clients the Pro3 shortens the visit and widens what a single tour can include. A hotel can show the pool deck and the lobby in one walk; a developer can capture a sales centre and the street frontage. Point-cloud exports from the Pro3 are also good enough for early-stage space planning, though a survey-grade scanner is still the right tool when tolerances tighten.

Pro3 is now the default camera for VirtualSpace bookings on floors above 5,000 sq ft, outdoor work, and any space with glass or strong daylight. The Pro2 remains in the fleet for residential and small retail where its price advantage still matters.
