Drone mapping for site progress: orthomosaics, volumes and fly-overs

Interior capture shows what was built. Aerial capture shows how the site is moving. VirtualSpace's Drone service combines both into one progress record.

What is in a drone deliverable

• Orthomosaic: a georeferenced top-down map at a few centimetres per pixel that plans and logistics can be drawn over.
• Volumes: stockpile and excavation quantities computed from the photogrammetry surface, reported per flight.
• Fly-over video: a stabilised orbit and reveal for stakeholder updates and marketing.
• 3D mesh or point cloud of the exterior, ready to combine with the interior scan.

Cadence

Weekly flights suit active earthworks and structure; monthly suits fit-out. Each flight is captured from the same mission plan so orthomosaics compare frame to frame, which is what makes a Space Lapse time-lapse possible.

Regulations and safety

Spatialist pilots hold the licences required in their jurisdiction, file airspace authorisations where needed, and fly RTK-equipped aircraft so maps register without ground targets on most sites.

Pairing with interior capture

On the same visit the Spatialist walks the interior with a Matterport Pro3 or a NavVis scanner. The client receives one Virtual Space with the aerial view at the top and every floor below it, updated on the same schedule.
